Scalpers targeting a limited-time promotional event for Final Fantasy 14 are stockpiling boba tea in an attempt to sell a mount to the MMO's community for as much as $150 each. Square Enix has introduced a special collaboration campaign with the boba tea chain Gong cha, featuring an adorable mount that scalpers are already marketing online for over $100.

Amid the new content in Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail, a Shadowbringers-themed mount has returned to the spotlight, thanks to a collaboration between the MMO and a popular tea franchise. According to Square Enix’s event announcement, the campaign will feature three custom drinks inspired by Final Fantasy 14 characters. Customers who purchase three of these drinks in one transaction will receive a code for the King Porxie mount.

This mount, previously exclusive to Japan, resembles the Pixie beast tribe Portly Porxie mount and sports an undeniably cute design. Unfortunately, acquiring this flying piggy mount is proving difficult for collectors. As with many such promotions, scalpers have noticed and are attempting to profit unfairly. A Reddit thread highlights the problem, providing examples of the scalping behavior.

A post explains that the cost for three drinks to obtain the mount is around $15-20, significantly lower than the $100-$150 scalpers are demanding online. Advertised listings for the King Porxie code often include terms like "EXTREMELY RARE" and "LIMITED," aiming to catch the attention of dedicated players for a quick profit. Commenters on the post also mention struggling to buy the required three drinks because of the scalping.

One commenter describes witnessing someone purchase 48 drinks only to throw them all away immediately after, walking off with 16 mount codes. Other commenters express hope that the King Porxie will become available for purchase elsewhere, like the Mog Station, since not everyone lives near a Gong cha location. Despite their desire for the mount, some fans, including the author, are not willing to spend an exorbitant amount or travel just to acquire it.

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail's new raid has been ranked among the MMO's best, with fans praising its unique mechanics and incredible music.
