Disney to Revive Classic Tale: A New Series Adaptation of Holes in the Works

A fresh reimagining of a timeless story is in the pipeline at Disney, which is set to revive the narrative of Holes. This fresh series will draw inspiration from the beloved book written by Louis Sachar, originally released in 1998. The story also saw a cinematic interpretation in 2003, crafted by Walt Disney Pictures.

The story focuses on a young child referred to as Stanley Yelnats, portrayed by Shia LeBouf in the film, who has a challenging life. He is transferred to Camp Green Lake, a facility for young offenders facility where he endures endless digging tasks under the supervision of Sigourney Weaver's character. Stanley soon discovers an intriguing link between his family and the history of Camp Green Lake, compelling him to seek out its hidden truths.

The upcoming series will introduce some changes to the storyline. Disney has shared a summary that goes as follows:

  • In this modern take on the cherished 1998 story by Louis Sachar, a young girl finds herself sent to a detention camp where the relentless Warden commands the campers to excavate holes for an enigmatic reason.

The series will feature Liz Phang in the roles of showrunner and executive producer, with Alina Mankin as a writer and also serving as an executive producer. Drew Goddard will also contribute as an executive producer. The pilot is being created by Walden Media, the identical organization responsible for the original film, which has long desired to explore this intellectual property further.
